Nero Fiddled While Rome Burned

But today instead, while 39.5 million Americans live in poverty, people can go and pay $1,000 USD for an ice-cream sundae. Just as an exercise of curiosity, how many homeless people do you think the customers of this restaurant pass each day? Just remember, whether it's a $1,000 dollar sundae or a $2 Drumstick, once it's passed through the digestive system - it all looks the same.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the West deserves what its about to get?

I've read an interesting article about the international trade in human organs - how the poeple who were offended on religious grunds a few years ago are ok with it now...There are some villages in Brazil where EVERYONE has scars where their kidneys were...And, as you might expect, the flow of organs is always South>North, Black>White, Poor>Rich.
The number of offenses punishable by death in the People's Republic of China have nearly doubled, and now includes cheating on your taxes, thanks to the booming trade in prisoner's organs.
We (the West) have actually started to literally consume our fellow human beings...

Actually, I think the trade in Chinese Prisoner Organs goes mostly towards keeping the Communist Party leadership alive, although I'm sure that any surplus gets sold to line their pockets. This doesn't surprise me though, any of you who are science fiction fans might want to read Larry Niven's 'The Organleggers'
