And So It Begins

Those of us who have a long time interest in politics may well remember the waning days of the Mulroney PM-ship, or the Reagan Presidency, when Cabinet Ministers/Secretaries started announcing their retirements. The Bush Presidency is no exception - lost in the news stories about DP World, Katrina, and the always popular topics of Iraq and Iran were the resignations of Interior Secretary Gale Norton, and long-time domestic policy advisor Claude Allen. Both of these resignations, the White House says, 'in order to spend time with their families'. Ah yes, family is important, and one should always strive to spend time with them, particularly when you've been linked to Jack Abramoff or when you've been charged with felony theft. Yes, it's good to spend time with your family at times like this - and that has to be the reason they resigned - to infer otherwise would make me a malicious and cynical individual, and as Kev would be the first to point out, that is just not in my nature.
