Waiting Wider, Not Longer...
Apparently, and this has been the case (unreported) for some time, Nova Scotia leads the country in having the shortest waiting times for cataract surgery. This is, in fact the only conceivable way in which we are leading, and we're doing it by default, since nobody else can see...
As for the claim we are one of the leading provinces in collecting wait time data, I'd like to see the list of criteria being used to make that grandiose claim. Our antiquated systems for collecting wait time information bear no resemblance to the complex electronic systems used in some jurisdictions - in fact, the complex system in place is...The big, black hardcover notebook you can buy at the dollar store. And a big eraser, in case Mrs. X starts screaming louder about how she's friends with a cabinet minister...
Compounding my annoyance at the way Ms. Aikenhead portrays the situation (no offense, she does what she's told), is the fact that we caved in and actually funded the purchase of a patient tracking system for the orthopedic surgeons in the province - Because they whined that they wanted it for two years.
It's like a frickin' kid after a toy commercial (and the analogy is frighteningly close to that)
Why the annoyance, you ask? What's wrong with fixing the problem you outlined at the beginning of this deathless prose?
Because the system they chose, and whined and wheedled and bargained for for TWO YEARS...
Is completely incompatible with ANY system either in existence or planned for the future of the health care system!
And they, like the immature children they are, blame the government for problems with the system.
Physician, shut thyself the hell up!
