Me and my girls are goin' to South Dakota!

Sam Alito has hardly warmed his chair and it already looks like there will be a court challenge to Roe v Wade in the US thanks to the good governor of South Dakota:

"In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society. The sponsors and supporters of this bill believe that abortion is wrong because unborn children are the most vulnerable and most helpless persons in our society. I agree with them," Rounds said in the statement.

Noble words, governor. I'm moving to South Dakota and will pick up blogging from there - apparently there's no poverty and every kid gets a great education, which my young 'uns will appreciate. It's a damn shame they're girls though, but they'll get used to their new "ambulatory incubation jar" status in time; it's God's way after all.

I guess in South Dakota girls who soon will be forced by law to carry to term babies borne of incest and rape will receive adequate health care and benefits, too. That's mighty noble of the government, don't you think?

Of course, the Christian-right nutters are aflutter over this, because there's nothing they like more than dictating how others should behave. Especially them damnable, dirty women. No, not damnable, the new act is all about women's health, really, isn't it? I mean, it's right there front and centre in the title - the Women's Health and Human Life Protection Act. It's not "Clear Skies" or "PATRIOT", or even "No Child Left Behind", but you can tell that it was crafted with love just the same - it's about women's health, after all!

I'm packing my bags...

interesting. well, i must say that i am a christian and do not think abortion is right, however there are certainly exceptions. when it is a case of incest or rape and the woman does not or can not keep the child, so be it. i am not familar with the govenors comments, however; isn't it just as wrong for you to make such blanket statements about all christians as it is for the govenor to make a blanket law for women? i would not tell someone who is carrying a child they "have to" deliver, however in most cases except for rape, incest, and harm to the mother, i would say i think abortion is wrong, but again, i would not force that on another person.

Thank you for your comments, matthew. I am not Christian, but I am not trying to demonize Christians as a group - just the zealous right-wing types that want to pass laws to control how everyone behaves.

I want Christians like you to get more press.
