Since When Did B.S. Change Colour?

Parents of the World!

Do not despair if your child acts up, has bad manners or refuses to listen to you - you're not a bad parent - your child is simply a higher life form!

So say proponents of the "Indigo Children" theory - the latest New Age phenomenom, based on this revelation:
up to 90 percent of children younger than 10 may be indigo, sharing the characteristics of not only being more spiritual and intuitive than their forebears, but also more creative and free-thinking. According to Carroll and Tober, indigos have a strong sense of self and are often impulsive, refusing to play by society's rules - a situation that often results in being mislabeled as having ADD or ADHD, attention deficit hyperactive disorder.
Here are some signs that your child is an Indigo:

1. They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it).

2. They have a feeling of "deserving to be here," and are surprised when others don't share that.

3. Self-worth is not a big issue. They often tell parents "who they are."

4. They have difficulty with absolute authority.

5. They will simply not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them.

6. They get frustrated with systems that are ritual-oriented and don't require creative thought.

7. They often see better ways of doing things, both at home and in school, which makes them seem like "system busters."

8. They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind. If there are no others of like consciousness around them, they turn inward, feeling like no other human understands them. School is often extremely difficult for them socially.

9. They will not respond to "guilt" discipline ("Wait till your father gets home.").

10. They are not shy in letting you know what they need.

You know, the oddest thing - we used to have kids like that when I was growing up - of course, we didn't call them 'Indigos' we just called 'spoiled' - which just goes to show how unenlightened we were.

I have read some on Indigo children and this is sure a slanted version of it. These children are supposedly very concerned about peace in the world and environmental concerns. This take on them, makes them look a whole like individualist, me-centered brats, exactly the opposite of what I have read. Too bad, as children with higher consciousness and atunement with nature and others is more of the type of people we want in the world.

If you think an unsupported accusation of bias on my part is supposed to scare me, Jan - think again. Got any hard names to support your "I have read some" hearsay or are we just channelling Shirley MacLaine again?

Dan, this is pretty f'ed up stuff. Exactly how do you find stuff like this? Actually, don't tell me, it's better I don't know I think.

Well Jan, if you don't buy that article, how about this one?

Or this one?

Or this one?

Or this one?

Or if you really want a chuckle try this story - apparently Indigo Children are so highly evolved, they can quote YTV Cartoon shows!

BTW, Jan - it's 'attunement' not 'atunement' - try channeling a dictionary once in a while. If your spelling and grammar are an example of higher consciousness, the Downfall of Civilization is Nigh

Frankly, this sounds like a description of someone with Aspberger's Syndrome, a form of Autism which Bill Gates (and many others) have.
Current progressive thinking on most forms of autism is that it's caused by poor nutrient absorption, as well as exposure to toxins during and after pregnancy. Apparently, many people with Aspberger's can live a relatively normal life with proper diet and a toxin-free environment (good advice for us all, I might add).
Of course, sometimes a good paddling will work, too ... might want to recommend that to your friend who needs to channel that dictionary. ;-)

The New Age is still with us, I guess. I've often thought of New Age silliness as the result of a society that largely ditches religion as a serious enterprise but still retains the need to believe in weird stuff.

It does sound like Aspberger's - a girl at my wife's school has a mild form of this and the "symptoms" line up.

Then again, it also sounds a lot like the hopeful wishes of gullible or silly parents with kids they've lost control of. You're right on Dan, these kids are simply spoiled brats.

Oh, the New Age never goes away, Kev - it just bringing back the same crap over and over again - heck, if you check the Sceptic's Dictionary site on Indigo Children, you'll see that supposedly they were foretold by Edgar Cayce (no doubt Nostradamus was busy). Actually, Jan was right about one thing - if more people were as efficient as the New Agers at recycling garbage and shite, there'd be no need for landfills.

You and Rosemary may well be right about the Aspergers - I'll admit I'd never heard of that particular form of autism before, but it does seem to fit the symptoms. Of course, the problem with their definitions, is that they're so broad and vague that pretty much any child could fall under them - heck, I've had cats that they could apply to.

Yeah, Briguy - narcissists would be a polite term for what these kids are going to grow up to be - I have nothing but pity for the poor teachers who are going to wind up trying to educate the sociopathic little monsters, cause you know they'll get no support or sympathy from the parents.

Dan! It's Rosemarie, not Rosemary (and it was right there in white and black, too ...) :-)
The other theory could be that those brats are simply the product of those idiot parents who think everything their child does is cute. It wears thin everywhere those obnoxious children go, followed by gape-mouthed adults worshipping the trail of destruction left behind their prodigy (best witnessed during the pre-Christmas spending orgy). Children raised with a strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility, as well as responsibility for their own actions and behaviour reach adulthood not only with a clear sense of personal responsibility, but also with respect and a sensitivity towards the other creatures who inhabit this earth. Indigo children sound like arrogant, self-centred brats who need some very clear boundaries and aren't getting them.
Thanks for a great blog, Din .. or rather Dan .... ;-)

Rosemarie

MacLean's Magazine online has an interesting interview with a TV peersonality who actually has some good points to make in a similar vein. Oddly enough, it's Debbie Travis, who seems smarter every time I see her outside of her usual decorating milieu.

Rosemarie - see, what it is is that when Mercury is rising in the 7th house and Aries is ascendant and the 2nd Chakra is glowing Vermillion - OK, shag it, I got nothing. My bad, I apologize (teach me to post after 2 beer). BTW, thanks for the compliment - I'll agree with you; the idea of this spoiled brats actually being good for the environment is laughable - yeah, someone who won't even clean up after themselves when their parents ask them too is going to clean up the planet...
