Oh Well, At Least They Beat Turkey

As the linked article shows, a recent study of 34 countries shows the United States placing 33rd in belief in evolution. Best quote:
“American Protestantism is more fundamentalist than anybody except perhaps the Islamic fundamentalist, which is why Turkey and we are so close,” said study co-author Jon Miller of Michigan State University.

This is bad news for the US. They can hardly maintain their dominant status in the world without educated people. Having a such large number of people steeped in Dark Age superstition when all other advanced countries aren't like that smacks of decadence to me.

Even scarier, where the heck is Canada?

That got some mention in the comments section of the original article, Jennifer - I suspect Canada would place fairly highly in the rankings, certainly in the range of the European nations.

The article also points out another interesting fact. The percentage of people who beleive in evolution has dropped from 45% to only 40% over a period of 20 years! This is just scary!

Phew, I was getting a little worried there, thinking it was really a 35 country study, and We fell right below Turkey. Or is that above Turkey... (thats right Alberta- God created man just before He created Albertosaurus and buried him in the sand and laughing to himself thought 'screw you all!')
