We have concluded a historic agreement today on nuclear power

Sometimes the stupidity of the superpower(s) surprises even cynical me. Hey, what a great idea, arm up both sides of the Kashmir debate and switch sides every now and then just to keep things interesting.

I hope George Bush likes headlines like this one, because he's going to see a lot of them in the future.

[Edit: Dan points out Fred Kaplan's excellent article on Salon that indicates the worst part of this deal is not the possible repercussions in Pakistan-Indian relations, which are never truly stable, but the fact that last year the American government is giving nuclear materials to a nuclear power that has not signed the Nonproliferation Treaty.

Kaplan points out that the problem is the United States has effectively side-stepped the NPT in making this deal, which it has no authority to do. What now can they say if China or Russia makes similar deals with Pakistan or Iran?]

Oh, it gets better than that buddy, check out this story to see how incredibly wrong this deal is - essentially Bush has decided that the Nuclear Non-Prolifilation Treaty doesn't apply to India, while at the same time he's using it to threaten Iran.

Well, Pakistan's already asking for the same deal from Bush - love John Bolton's comment - he says that India and Pakistan built up their Nuclear arsenals 'legimately' since they never signed the NNPT
